A Great Companion For Summertime Fun!

Eddie
Eddie is a beautiful 65 pound, 1 year old Yellow Lab mix. He is very friendly, loving and playful!

This sweet boy is crate and house trained. He knows basic commands like sit and shake and would benefit from additional training. He is fostered with other dogs and cats, but would do best as the only pet.

Eddie needs an active person to keep him busy. He enjoys car rides, bath time and playing fetch. He also loves sleeping with his human and giving kisses!

This boy MUST have a fenced yard, and we feel he would do best in a home with no children under 15. No apartments or condos please. He is neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and on heartworm and flea prevention.

Eddie's adoption fee is $200.00 (cash only).

This sweetheart will be at the Livonia PetSmart on Saturdays from 11-3. Come up and meet this cutie!

Minnie (Special Needs - Adoption Fee Waived)

Our little Miss Minnie is a living embodiment of just how good life can be. From shelter to foster home, this kitty has had nothing but love to give--and serves to remind whomever is around her that life is worth living in the here and now, and in every minute, things couldn't be better! We know someone out there is looking for just such a zen experience, and wants to share their life with a tiny being who will reinforce what it means to take life as it comes, and be present and happy in each moment.

She is a sweet young brown tabby female with an adorable set of black ear tufts, rabbit-soft fur, and some awesome striped whiskers (black with white tips!). At about 3-4y, she's full grown, but playful and ready for the new adventures each day brings. Are you ready to meet her and change both your lives?

Minnie is what we like to refer to as special needs 'lite': We are looking for a home that can provide her with a quality diet, fresh water, fresh air, and a stress free living situation, along with regular health checks (yearly check ups)--much as we hope any of our adopted cats would receive. The reason we are looking for a home that will take great care of our girl Minnie is that she has tested FIV positive, which has been stigmatized in the past, but current research is showing that lots of cats who test positive live long, happy lives with high quality care. At present, she shows no signs of being immuno-compromised, which likely means she'll live as any cat would in your home. If you have other cats, but are interested in Minnie, please don't count her out b/c of this--often, if cats are friendly towards each other, there is low risk of transmission. We'll work with you to find our special kitty a stress free home where she can shine for the all the zen moments to come.

Her adoption donation of $100 is being sponsored, therefore, there is no fee to the approved home. Having her future home be prepared to provide her care is the most important factor to us. Contact this STH animal's foster mom at blueroomrescue@yahoo.com for an application today! We pride ourselves in contact with potential adopters within 24 hours so you won't be left waiting!!

All Shelter to Home animals are fully vetted per their age. We believe in pediatric spay and neutering. All animals will be spayed or neutered, tested for FIV/FeLV, given age appropriate boosters and rabies, dewormed, flea treated, and anything extra that is needed to give this feline a wonderful forever life in a permanent home. Visit www.sheltertohome.com for more information.

Foster Friday!

Lola
Welcome to Foster Friday! My name is Karen and I'm going to be giving you an insight into the very humorous, touching and fulfilling world of fostering animals. I have been fostering for over 20 years (took a few years off somewhere in the middle of that) and have had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of way cool three and four legged friends. Oh, yeah, have met some really nice folks along the way too ;). Currently, I foster the homeless animals from the Wyandotte and Southgate shelters and have found myself with some long time residents. A bit of an unusual situation, my current kids have tested positive for Feline Leukemia. Boooooo, thumbs down, thumbs down but we have decided to make lemonade! To catch you up on the current household activities, lets meet the players:

1. Maria, the mom cat, who is getting chubby but I completely understand as I really like food also.

2. Joan, daughter one, renamed because her meow has a rockin' growl like Joan Jett. Total bully to my owned male cat but gotta love her for the spunk factor (my cats are vaccinated against Felv and we only have a couple hours a week of free roam time, no worries).
3. Charlotte, daughter two, lovable and on the quiet side. Easy breezy cat to have around.
4. Emily, daughter three, hello gorgeous! Elegant and such a girl. She would be choosing all pink clothes if she wore them.
...and last but most definitely not least....
5. Lola, add on daughter four. I call her three strike Lola as she has everything going against her. She is black (black shelter animals have a lower adoption rate than any other color). One of her eyes is smaller than the other, a simple birth defect that does not hinder her sight in any way and she's Felv positive. Nuff said but guess what? (and don't tell the others) she is my favorite.

Every friday we (all the furry residents and I) decide what the weekend will entail. This weekend is basically the same as many before. Since I have had to make a separate living space for these fosters, I have moved rooms around a gazillion times trying to figure out the best way to keep everyone happy, oh, and I mean me, lol. But I have to tell you, I am getting good with some power tools (will be installing sliding doors to divide a room soon) and getting waaaaaaaay creative and crafty. My basement is finally turning into a livable space! Lola is currently sporting paint on her tail and along side her body as she insisted on helping paint the walls! She did think the paint roller was a game and was jumping on the wall as the roller passed therefore creating a work of art all her own in the form of blue paw prints on the floor. It definitely adds character to the space.

We actually have a very big event today, Maria and Lola are visiting our vet to get an IFA test. This test will let us know if the disease has entered their bone marrow or not. If it has not, they still have a chance of fighting it off and we are crossing all paws and fingers! We are also making a cat scratching shelf this weekend and the girls are very excited about that...can't wait to mix a project including glue with curious cats.

Join me next week to see how it all turns out!

A Special Guy With Special Needs

Cooper
This is Cooper. He is a very sweet, quiet and cuddly boy. He is an adorable 3 year old Papillion mix that weights 7 pounds.

Cooper does have an old back/spine injury, but it doesn't seem that he even knows it; he gets around just fine. The vet watched Cooper walk, run and play, and feels that surgery is not necessary at this point. He is doing really well, so we are going to get him off of the steroids he's been on and see what he is like in two to three weeks. If he starts to decline then he may be prescribed a very low dose of steroids to be taken indefinitely. Physical therapy was suggested as well, especially water therapy, so we'll be starting with that asap.

Cooper will need a home with no small children and a home with carpeting to make it easier for him to get around.

Home Or Rescue Needed!

Marky Mark
Marky Mark has been boarded for 3 and a half years!

He is having surgery this week for a Luxating Patella on his rear leg and then he will be boarded at the vets until he can find a rescue group to take him on.

This poor guy has never had a family. He is about 4 years old, neutered and up to date. He does get snippy if you startle him or make him do something he does not want to do, otherwise he is a good dog.

Markie has never had anyone to teach him right from wrong. He is good with cats and it seems most dogs. It's hard to really say since he has been in a wire cage 90% of his life.

No little children would be best.
